Trees often have moss on only one side and often as in this case it is offset by lichen on the other side.   The moss is a glossy bright green in the sunshine but the lichen is so bleached by the sun it appears as a greenish grey colour.

Start the tree by sketching the outline then start to fill it in. Slant your stitches toward the centre of the trunk to give it a rounded impression. The trunk and branches are blended straight stitches as usual, while the Autumn leaves are tiny French knots clumped together giving the tree that iconic ‘adorned with gold’ appearance.
